Flexural Testing of Prestressed Self-Consolidating Concrete Bridge Girders

 

 

A series of three-point bending tests are being conducted to experimentally determine the development length of steel strands in prestressed self-consolidating concrete (SCC) girders. Test specimens comprise two 48-foot I-girders with cast-in-place SCC decks and two 28-foot hollow box girders, both of which are common in Illinois bridge construction. Strand end-slip, vertical deflection, concrete strain, and load capacity are monitored in each test. Results will be compared to development length requirements of the ACI and AASHTO Codes.

 

This is the final phase of a study sponsored by the Illinois Department of Transportation investigating the bond properties of SCC in full-scale prestressed bridge girders.
